Waffle Chart

WHAT IS IT?

A waffle chart shows progress towards a target or a completion percentage. There is a grid of small cells, of which colored cells represent the data. A chart can consist of one category or several categories. Multiple waffle charts can be put together to show a comparison between different charts.

WHERE TO USE?

Great thing about this chart is that, it doesn’t show angles,so it makes it easier for the viewer to compare data accurately. It is relatively an effective option when you want to add an interesting visualization to your dashboard without distorting the data or taking up too much dashboard real estate.

- You can only present data in percentages in a Waffle Chart
- Avoid scenarios where negative percentages are anticipated to avoid confusions
- Using more than one data point to represent makes the chart complicated to understand
